Fragrant Hyacinth Bulbs for Pots & Borders
Hyacinth ‘Purple Pride’ is particularly effective when planted in groups, where its upright flower spikes create an impressive spring display. Position the bulbs near pathways, entrances or seating areas to make the most of their beautiful fragrance.
For patios and smaller outdoor spaces, plant Purple Pride in containers with good drainage. Hyacinths also work beautifully as part of a mixed spring bulb display alongside tulips, daffodils, crocuses and muscari.
How to Plant Hyacinth Purple Pride Bulbs
Plant your hyacinth bulbs in autumn in fertile, well-drained soil, choosing a sunny or partially shaded position.
Plant the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. As a general guide, bulbs can be planted approximately 10cm deep, allowing sufficient space between each bulb for healthy growth.
When planting in pots, always choose a container with adequate drainage and avoid allowing the compost to become waterlogged.
After flowering, faded flower spikes can be removed, but allow the foliage to die back naturally so the bulbs can continue storing energy.
